FAQ
Previous visa refusal?
Not an automatic bar. Declare it honestly, explain what has changed, and provide stronger supporting documents. YES Education can check the application narrative and checklist.
Common causes of rejection
- Insufficient or non-liquid funds (FDs, bonds, mutual funds); sudden large cash deposits; unexplained source of funds or unclear sponsor relationship
- Missing sponsor documents, academic documents, certified translations or apostille
- Insurance not valid in Spain; no accommodation proof
- Inconsistent information; incomplete application; missing or expired PCC or medical certificate
- Applying too close to course start; course not aligned with past studies or experience; failing embassy interview requirements
Study without speaking Spanish?
Yes: English-taught bachelor’s and master’s options exist, depending on institution. Spanish-taught programmes may need B2; the 1-year preparatory route helps.
Course or institution changes after arrival?
Check conditions of the student authorization first: whether the new course stays eligible and whether immigration notification or a new application is needed. Never assume a change is automatically permitted.
Work while studying
Up to 30 hours/week, subject to the conditions of the student authorization; verify your own permit before starting. Minimum wage about €8.87–9.55/hour (2025–2026 range). Typical earnings: €300–800/month in student internships; €700–1,100/month in larger cities or skilled roles.
Bringing family
Students in higher education may bring eligible family: spouse, registered or qualifying stable partner, certain minor children (and certain adult children with support needs). Proof of relationship, financial means and health insurance is required. Family under this authorization cannot work.
After graduation
Job seeker: up to 24 months may be available. Work: move to a work authorization with a contract. Study: complete another official programme. Long-term: eligible Filipinos may have a path from legal residence to citizenship under Spanish nationality rules. Check current eligibility first.

Malaysia
Student Pass via EMGS: eVAL, Single Entry Visa (SEV) and Graduate Pass. Institution-led process.
Key difference: the institution lodges the application with EMGS, Immigration decides, and the pass is endorsed in the passport only after arrival and a medical screening.
Process
- Secure offer from an EMGS-registered institution.
- Submit eVAL — pay visa fee and deposit; institution lodges with EMGS (follow its deadlines).
- eVAL & SEV (about 4–6 weeks) — download eVAL via EMGS Mobile Hub; obtain SEV (Embassy) or eVISA if eligible.
- Travel & arrive — show passport, printed colour eVAL and SEV; get a Special Pass; report to the visa office next working day.
- Medical & pass — EMGS panel clinic within 7 days; Student Pass and i-Kad endorsed.

FAQ
Do Filipinos need an entry visa?
Yes, a Single Entry Visa — the Philippines is on EMGS’s list. Apply at the Malaysian Embassy or eVISA once the eVAL is approved. Recheck the list, it can change.
Is the eVAL the Student Pass?
No. It only authorises travel and entry; the Student Pass is endorsed after the medical. Don’t book flights until eVAL and SEV are approved.
Changing course or university?
Per University of Nottingham Malaysia: cancel the pass, return home and reapply for a new eVAL; applications can’t be lodged from inside Malaysia.
IELTS/TOEFL needed? Medical before travel?
Depends on institution and level; confirm per program. Only a Health Declaration Form goes with the application; the medical is after arrival.
Work rights
No part-time work during semester. Up to 20 hrs/week during official breaks with Immigration approval (restaurants, petrol kiosks, mini-markets). Apply via the visa office: employer offer letter, academic calendar, attendance/transcript, faculty non-objection letter. Work only after passport endorsement.
Renewal, Graduate Pass & after study
Renewal (UNM): at least 80% attendance and pass all modules. Graduate Pass: 12-month social visit pass for Bachelor’s and above, allows work in permitted sectors without sponsorship; the Philippines is eligible. Needs completion letter, passport valid 18+ months, local health insurance, and a bond with a Malaysian-citizen sponsor earning at least RM 1,500/month. Next: Employment Pass (a MIDA pass covers selected manufacturing sectors).
Agent tips
- Start early (4–6 weeks for eVAL, sometimes longer).
- Warn students to cancel/shorten the pass before leaving — the RM 2,000 deposit depends on it.
- Never promise part-time work; flag course changes early (new eVAL needed).
- Confirm English tests and tuition with each institution. Verify with EMGS, the Embassy in Manila or the institution.
South Korea
D-2 (degree) and D-4 (Korean language) visas, lodged at KVAC. Simple categories, but immigration weighs the university’s Standard Admission Certificate and clean finances heavily.
Visa types
| Visa | Purpose | Validity |
|---|---|---|
| D-4-1 | Korean language (>90 days) | 6-month blocks, renewable |
| D-2-1 | Associate degree | Up to 2 yrs |
| D-2-2 | Bachelor’s | Up to 4 yrs |
| D-2-3 | Master’s | Up to 2 yrs |
| D-2-4 | Doctoral | Up to 4 yrs |
| D-2-5 to 8 | Research, exchange, special programs | Varies |
The university decides the category, not the agent. Courses under 90 days may not need a long-term visa. Directly admitted degree students apply for D-2 from the Philippines; no D-4 needed first. D-4 → D-2 conversion happens inside Korea: Admission Certificate, one completed language semester, TOPIK 3+ (4+ for graduate), updated financial proof.
Process
- Secure admission (3–6 months before intake).
- Admission Certificate after deposit (2–3 months before).
- Prepare documents (1–2 months before): funds, authentication, translations, TB test.
- Lodge at KVAC BGC in person; pay fees.
- Processing 2–4 weeks (3–6 in Jun–Aug, Chuseok, Seollal).
- Collect visa within 3 months; book flights only after approval.
- Arrival: within 90 days register ARC, join NHIS, bank account, SIM, orientation.
Funds
- D-2 benchmark ₩20,000,000 held 28+ days (deck cites ≈USD 15,000–16,000; use the figure on the Admission Certificate). Fresh last-minute deposits are a classic refusal trigger.
- D-4: no blanket minimum; follow the school’s certificate and the KVAC bulletin.
- Account under the student or parent/legal guardian; both parents’ balances can be combined (PSA marriage + birth certificates).
- Other sponsors: notarized affidavit of support, sponsor ID, relationship explanation; parents’ documents often still needed.
- Bank Certificate within 30 days (plus statements/ITR/employment certificate as required); Admission Certificate within 3 months.
- Scholarship letters can replace bank documents; partial scholarships need proof for the balance. Deceased parent: sibling’s account + death certificate + PSA birth certificates.
Documents
Application form and photo · Passport (6+ months, blank pages) · Full academic records (apostilled/DFA-authenticated, translated if required) · PSA birth certificate · Parents’ PSA marriage certificate · Financial documents · Korean Admission Certificate (IEQAS-certified school; verify at studyinkorea.go.kr) · School’s Business Registration Certificate · TB certificate. The visa file is incomplete without the Admission Certificate.
TB screening
- Required for all Filipinos (90+ day visas) from a designated hospital on the Embassy list.
- Chest X-ray plus a confirmatory test, with TB history declaration; sealed, with photo dry-seal/signature.
- Valid 3 months, so schedule about 1–2 months before lodging. Current positive = denial; resolved past TB must be disclosed.
Costs
| Item | Approx. |
|---|---|
| Visa single / multiple entry | USD 80 / USD 120 |
| KVAC service fee | ₱1,000 cash |
| ARC | ₩30,000 (within 90 days) |
| NHIS insurance | ≈₩40,000/month |
| Yearly extension | ₩60,000 |
| Language course (10 wks) | USD 1,500–2,500 |
| Undergrad national / private | USD 3,000–7,400 / 6,000–12,000 per year |
| Postgrad national / private | USD 3,700–9,000 / 6,000–20,000+ per year |
| GKS/KGSP | Full tuition + stipend, merit/TOPIK based |
TOPIK & English
TOPIK I (Levels 1–2), TOPIK II (3–4 intermediate, 5–6 advanced). Level 3 typical for undergrad Korean-taught programs, Level 4+ for graduate. Valid 2 years. No TOPIK/IELTS needed for D-4. English-taught programs: IELTS/TOEFL iBT (some accept Duolingo), per university.
Eligibility, risks & rights
Age, gaps, marital status, prior degrees
No age cap; explain gaps and intent in the personal statement. Second Bachelor’s allowed; unrelated Bachelor’s can apply for a Master’s if the university accepts. Married students apply individually.
Common refusal triggers
Insufficient or freshly deposited funds, incomplete/inconsistent documents, non-IEQAS school, unclear study plan, undisclosed prior refusals. Always disclose refusals; typically wait 3–6 months before re-lodging. Low GPA isn’t disqualifying alone.
Family (F-3 visa)
Spouse and unmarried children under 20, once the student is in a bachelor’s or higher and has completed 6 months in Korea. Needs apostilled marriage/birth certificates and proof of financial support. De facto partners are not eligible.
Work rights
Part-Time Work Permit only after 6 months in good standing. Bachelor’s roughly 10–25 hrs/week by TOPIK level; Master’s/PhD about 15–30; unlimited in official vacations for qualifying students. Working without a permit is a violation.
After graduation
D-10 Job-Seeking visa, or convert D-2/D-10 to a work visa such as E-7 with a qualifying offer, without leaving Korea. No automatic right to stay.
Agent tips
- Start 6 months ahead (timeline 3–5 months); verify IEQAS first.
- Coach on the 28-day rule; book the TB test late.
- Flag unusual sponsorship cases. Verify with KVAC, HiKorea, the Embassy in Manila or the school.
